There are a few similarities and differences between the WPBD and KNEX. One of the biggest differences is that the KNEX bars cannot be connected to each other at any angle, unlike the WPBD where it allows you to slant the bars in any angle you choose. This difference puts a huge limit on how you want to design your bridge. Also with the KNEX you cannot choose what type of bar you use or view forces such as compression or tension. The WPBD also has its own simulator where the truck drives past the bridge and if the design failed, it shows you where it failed.
I would say that the WPBD is a much better tool to create a more accurate bridge design, but what they both have in common is that outside forces are also disregarded.
