Plan:
Truss Bill of Materials:
The design goal for this assignment is to create a bridge
that has the best price to weight ratio while still meet the requirements of
the design constraints. The basic shape of this bridge is a trapezoid with
squares and a diagonal within each square to reinforce the stableness. The
shape of the design did not change much during the design. The only difficulty I
had was to meet the constraint of 2’ in length. I originally started with
yellow chords going across and red chords going diagonally, but that did not
meet the 2’ mark. Rather than adding on a whole square, I have decided to replace
the yellow chords by blue chords, and replace red chords by yellow chords. The
reason I did that is because I have learned from WPBD that shorter chords are
stronger and cheaper than the longer ones. From this assignment, I have learned
that it is very important to keep a record of all the works and make accurate
measurements. Additionally, I also learned it is necessary to keep an open mind
to changes—it is alright to restart a project as many times as you need because
the result is what matters the most.
